For fans of Ahn Hyo-seop, it’s no secret that the K-drama actor once came close to debuting as an idol with none other than the members of GOT7.

Known by his English name Paul, he was originally part of JYP Entertainment’s roster during his trainee days.

But fate had other plans, ones that would lead him down the path of acclaimed acting roles like “Still 17,” “Dr. Romantic,”“Business Proposal” and “A Time Called You.”

Now, in a twist of destiny, the Korean Canadian heartthrob has finally made his idol debut, albeit in animated form.

He is making headlines globally for his role in Netflix’s new animated film “KPop Demon Hunters,” which was released Friday and has since soared to No. 1 in 31 countries.

In the film, he lends his voice to Jinu, the charismatic leader of fictional demon boy group SAJA BOYS. And fans didn’t need to wait for the credits as many recognized his smooth voice right away.

“I knew it!! His voice is easy to catch,” one fan posted on X.

The film centers on Huntrix, a top-charting K-pop girl group who lead double lives as secret demon hunters saving the world.

Alongside the stylish fight scenes and flashy stage performances, the soundtrack has also made waves, with original songs climbing global music charts.

On Instagram, Ahn added a playful touch by sharing snaps of himself with Derpy, a plush tiger featured in the film, captioned: “jinu😈 + derpy🐯 vs 바울😼.”

The post instantly went viral with fans gushing in the comments.

Though he was born in South Korea, Ahn spent 10 years of his youth in Toronto, Canada, giving him fluency in English. Since returning to Korea at 17, he has carved a niche as one of K-drama’s most beloved leads, even winning a Rookie Award in 2017 for “My Father is Strange.”

With “KPop Demon Hunters,” Paul might not have taken the stage with GOT7, but he’s finally living out his idol dreams, and this time, he’s slaying demons too.
